These are some of the most frequently asked questions
about Cedar Creek Trophy Whitetail Deer Mineral.
Q. What is Cedar Creek Deer Mineral?
A. This is a WELL BALANCED Nutritional Supplement that provides whitetail deer the minerals and vitamins that are important during the gestation period when does are carrying their fawns, lactation period when new born fawns are needing the most premium milk possible and during the breeding season to help keep the deer healthy as the cold winter months approach. Plus has the calcium and phosphorus that are important in antler growth and development.
Q. How is Cedar Creek Trophy Whitetail Deer Mineral different than other products on the market?
A. This is a WELL BALANCED product which makes it different than a lot of products on the market today. Many people think that salt, (Sodium Chloride) is the key ingredient to growing and holding healthy deer with large antlers on their property. Which in reality large amounts of salt is bad for deer. Sodium in salt is important for nursing does, but supplying excessive amounts of salt to deer is no different from the people who consume excessive amounts of salt in their diet. It is not doing either the deer or humans any good. However when you take salt, iron, zinc, selenium calcium, phosphorus along with other trace minerals and vitamins A, D3 & E in the right amounts you have a product that is balanced. Cedar Creek Trophy Whitetail Deer Mineral was formulated and balanced to grow a healthier deer herd. A healthy buck will therefore have a better chance to maximize their antler growth. Does benefit from the addition nutrition also, it increases their energy levels plus makes them healthier which is important during the Gestation period when they are carrying fawns. Breeding season is tougher on the bucks than on the does and being healthy helps them endure this stressful period. Red blood cells play an important part in keeping a deer healthy, it is during the breeding season when this product is important in building red blood cells. This product is also important during the lactation period when the does need to product the most premium milk possible for their fawns.
Q. When should I offer the deer this product?
A. This product should be readily available for deer to eat year round. Bucks, Does and Fawns all have different dietary needs throughout the year. Deer will eat this product mostly from late January through August. When the does are carrying fawns and producing milk and the bucks are building up their bodies and growing their antlers, getting ready for the breeding season to come in the fall.
Q. How should I start a mineral lick?
A.
Scout an area where deer are seen most frequently. Find the most active
deer trail just inside the cover from a feeding area or food plot.
Approximately 1 foot off the trail dig a hole 1 to 2 feet in diameter and
approximately 1 foot deep. take tree-quarters of a 50lb bag of Cedar Creek
Trophy Whitetail Deer Mineral and mix it with the dirt you dug out of the hole
then put the dirt/mineral mixture back into the hole, take the remainder of the
50lb back and dump it on top. Another ideal location is a rotten tree
stump that is real close to a deer trail. Take a bag of this product and
pour it in and around the stump. Make sure you are in a area where there
is good soil, with no rocks, gravel or sand. It's very important that you
start your mineral licks in a area where deer traffic is the heaviest.
Deer will start eating this product most of the time within 3 to 5 days,
depending on the time of the year you start offering it. Check the mineral
lick about once a month. Do not check them to frequently, this will cause
the deer to become leery of the area, plus will contaminate the area with human
scent.
Do not offer
any other products containing salt on the property where you have Cedar Creek
Deer Mineral, you want the deer to get all the benefits this product had to
offer. If you have a spot where you have offered salt for deer, you
can put this product in that same spot.
Q. How many mineral licks should I have?
A. It's a good idea to have a mineral lick at each major deer trail in each funnel area, but no closer than 300 yards apart.
Q. How much Cedar Creek Trophy Whitetail Deer mineral will the deer consume?
A. With this product being WELL BALANCED the deer will not eat an excessive amount. It is formulated so that in the length of time each deer takes in the amount of salt that their bodies are calling for they have also taken in the other minerals and vitamins that are needed to have healthier deer and to help antler growth. An average size deer can only eat 1 to 2 oz. of this product each day they come to the mineral lick.
Q. What else can we offer the deer to help hold them on our property?
A. Forage, Grain, Browse, Mineral/vitamin supplement, a good clean water source and a lot of good cover. We at Cedar Creek recommended Ladino clover and or Alfalfa in food plots. These are high in protein and carbohydrates. You can get the seed for the clover and alfalfa at your local feed mill or seed stores. In addition there are many different types of trees and plants that Deer browse on. Check with your Conservation Department, they can provide you with a list of these plants. Oak trees play an important part in a deer's diet. The acorns they produce is a good source of protein but more importantly are high in carbohydrates and fat which deer need to help build up their bodies to help them make it through hard winters in a healthy condition. Even though a lot of people offer shelled corn to the deer we do not recommend this, for deer will sometimes over indulge on corn alone. If you want to feed deer grain we suggest you go to your local feed mill and have a mixture of corn, soybeans, wheat and oats. This grain mixture along with Cedar Creek Deer Mineral will build healthy deer and Bucks with trophy size antlers. Remember it is illegal in many states to offer deer grain/bait when deer seasons approaches. Check with your state and local officials before feeding deer grain or any type of protein blocks. Cedar Creek Trophy Whitetail Deer Mineral can be left out year round in Missouri, but in some states it is illegal to hunt over a mineral lick.
Q. How long will it take to see results with this product?
A. We generally tell
people it will take 2, 3 or 4 years. Even though we have people say they
could see a difference in the first year.
Why we like to tell them 2 to 4 years is because the fawns that will start
eating this product this spring will continue eating it (if you have it
available for them) for the next 2 to 4 years. having consumed Cedar Creek
Trophy Whitetail Deer Mineral has helped them to be healthier from the start and
whenever you have a healthy buck he will produce the best quality antlers that
his genetics will allow him to grow. The 2,3 & 4 year old deer that
eat this product will also become healthier and you have to remember that these
deer are the breeding stock for the fawns to be born this spring.
